The first game of the season saw us face CBeebies at Fitzallan. Rushed messages were left on mobile phones to attend. But many were unable to attend,reminiscent of falling to attend the forth day of the ashes as the girls went shopping for hand bags in Sydney. Shin pads were put on the boundry and we were ready to go.
The Hurricanes batted first. First up was D.Stagg and Jaffa Cake. D.Stagg lasted four balls and no runs and came back in tears. Jaffa Cake played some juicy, fruity shots, many with Zest. He scored a couple of sixes and was caught at 16. In came Danny (the king Cane ). He batted well placing shots carefully but was caught for 5. Sully in next batting like a nervous kitten suffering with constipation. He made 6 runs and was dubioulsy given out by Imran for LBW???????? ( whose side is he on exactly.)
It wasnt looking good at this point but Clive the Cat Campbell batted suberbly playing cover drives, hook shots and pulls etc etc scoring several 4s and one six. He went out for a respectable 22. Jimmy and Grifo in next. both batted well and against a top bowler. Some lovely shots played by both. Grifo bowled for 28 and Jimmy stumped for 34. Well done lads. In comes Angle in the tail and scores 1 run and beats his last season top score. Congratulations Angle. A respectable score of 137 was left for CBeebies to beat. Question was would they beat it……….???.
Angle and D.Stagg opened the bowling. Both did well. David Stagg skittled (im mean boweld) the first wicket of the season at lightening pace. He looked very happy. Angle got two in row (one caught and clean bowled the other). CBebbies had two good battsmen and were scoring runs with great gusto and zing and looked like they might give us a game. Some great sporting achievements were made, none of which have been seen before. Clive managed to fuse ice – scating and Cricket together by slipping on his arse and flipping the ball into his hand to catch the ball….Remarkable 5.7 5.8 6.0 5.8 5.7 Well done Robin Cousins.
Sully came in and bolwed and only managed 1 wide in two overs. How a wicket never fell is anyones guess. The constipated kitten managed a D.C in the process ( my back is still hurting) Jaffa had a DC aswell and tripped over the bags on the boundry at the same time. Wickets continued to fall with wickets going to Imran ( whose side is he on ) and somone else that i cant read. The highlight of the game was the most comical catch sinse Sullys two seasons ago. Straight out of “how to make a catch difficult” D. Stagg did his perfect Magners impression. What a catch Dave. The shock was written across your face…They top scored 22. Grifo showed how chivalrous he can be by stumping Isabelle.Shame on you.!!!!!!!!!! Danny kept wicket well and made few mistakes. Grifo nearly made a maiden over but was spanked for 6 on the last ball but for some unknown reason he wrote it down as 4 in the score book (funny that). Angle came back into bowl to claim a famous hat -trick but had to make do with his 2 wickets. They finished on 100.37 short. We celebrated this princely victory by drinking copious amounts Irish Cider in the bar. What a win and what an evening……………Well done boys…..
